About Us

We are a group of dedicated performers, entertainers, actors, artisans, volunteers and vendors with the dream of establishing a permanent site Renaissance Festival here in British Columbia. With over fifty Renfests in North America providing jobs and unique opportunities for professional and personal growth the originators of the BCRF saw no reason why it could not be done here. Following the same format and development plan as many of our successful counterparts, over time we hope to be able to turn the volunteers into paid staff and give those talented masses who don't have enough or have been over looked a chance to shine and feel at home. Those who presently volunteer with us and provide the support we need for this growth will be the first to be offered a permanent place in our hearts and on our site.

*

At this time we are a one weekend event.

*

Future plans are to be able to have a permanent home so that we can run over a number of weekends and provide a space for special functions and educational opportunities.

*

Presently our vendors are working out of tents and temporary structures.

*

With a permanent site they would have their own permanent structure stores, helping the village truly be a village.

*

We presently bring in our jousting team from Alberta.

*

In time we hope to be able to build a local team and achieve the same standards as our fellow Canadian counterparts, sending our team to International Jousting Competitions.

*

As we are still a one weekend event we have one storyline (consisting of roughly 13 - 18 actors) and a small villager population.

*

With a permanent site we could have a larger storyline cast (some renfests have 20 plus on storyline cast) and a healthier village population (many established renfests have roughly 100 villagers)

*

With a one weekend event we have one storyline that repeats itself each day.

*

A true home and multiple weekends would give us the chance to run the one story, each day for a number of weekends and be able to do a second or third storyline for themed weekends.

*

We are setting up 3 temporary stages for each year.

*

An actual village would allow us to build full stages and increase the number of stages.

There is plenty more to say about us but let us share with you a few more thoughts.

We are not a reenactment group and are more focused on entertainment.

We welcome you no matter what you are wearing (As long as it is legal) and hope to be able to add to the tourism in BC.

We are a family friendly production and project with warnings in the program book for any show that may not be as child friendly as some of you would like. Our children's stage will always be in a position that your kids will not be left out.

We are more unique then anything BC has had so far and are finding that this is not only a refreshing thing for our audience but also for our actors. The combination of script and improv has guaranteed the return of 95% of our stage performers and ensemble/village actors.

We are historically influenced so don't be surprised if someone in your attending group actually does learn something before they go home that day.

If you'd like to learn more about the Renaissance Festival (or Faire) format that we are following we recommend that you visit the community and read some posts. The best community example can be found at: www.renaissancefestival.com. Here a number of Rennies (renfest regulars) post their opinions and views as well listings of renfests. Many of them also share their photos.
