Auditions for Stage Shows

Types of Performers AT the BC Renaissance Festival

The Ensemble AKA Storyline characters: At the renfest, in the morning, a story starts at the main gates and continues on and off during the day. It weaves through areas of the renfest itself and usually wraps up at the Pub sing. You can follow these characters or simply stumble on them, either way they restart the story the next day so, if you missed a piece, you can come back again and try once more. Note: For the Pub sing we will provide words to the songs closer to the date in case you would like to sing along.

Wandering Performers/Villagers: We are the Village of Steller's Grove and therefore have village folk. Wandering characters like the village fool, wenches, monk/nun, pub master, squires, a lord and lady, smiths, etc. wander the property during the day. You can talk to them, say hello to them and take pictures with them. These folks have welcomed you into their village for the day and expect you to be merry. If you miss a story piece, go ahead and ask them what has happened.

Stage Performers: With four stages and a jousting field there are plenty of opportunities to provide scheduled stage performances for the masses. Hosting performances like comedy, music, jugglers, dancers, magic, etc... these stages give you the opportunity to set up your day productively and get the most for your entry. Some shows are child friendly which means that the shows we put on those stages are definitely friendly to the young ones. Other shows are not guaranteed to be child friendly so check the schedule before planning to attend those shows as they may not be what you want for your child. If you wonder what 'non-child' friendly is...We ask performers to provide for us a target audience for their show. If they feel that their own show is not child friendly then we pass that advice onto you and let you decide for yourself.

Remember:

All of our performers are volunteers. We are providing a 'sales and promo' tent for them to sell CDs and other items related to their performance (example: T-Shirts, Magicians who sell magic kits, etc...) as well as leave out promo material for you to pick up at the end of the day so please, after you see that show you think is wonderful, pick up a flyer, pamphlet or purchase a CD. There will also be a stage wench/squire passing the hat for the performers. You do not HAVE to contribute, but if you like their show they would appreciate your contribution.

The BC Renfest also requires an Assistant Director and Pub Sing Coordinator.

The AD will assist with blocking and projection. We are a sort of 'theatre in the round' format and the director is also a cast member. The AD will work with the Director in order to support and maintain (through guidance during rehearsals) the structure of the scenes. The AD will also support the cast and performance on the festival weekend on site by constantly keeping an eye on the scene, approaching the director during breaks in order to address any follies so as not to repeat. Cueing the actors for the scenes and keeping the 'actor walkie talkie' on hand at all times in case a scene needs to be rescued or modified. The AD should not be 'an actor' at the renfest as the cast needs the support while live. The AD will also work along side the Villager Coordinator in order to keep storyline cast (Ensemble) and villagers working together. In short, the AD for a project of this type is an AD as well as a PA with assisting the Director with anything associated with the cast and storyline.

Pub Sing Coordinator will teach the cast to sing songs set out by the Director for the Pub sing. Will keep in touch with the Guitarist and the cast to set rehearsals and any additional rehearsals particular cast may need. This person will keep the musician(s) and the cast in time with each other and direct mannerisms (if need be) in order for the cast to look 'together' while on stage. The Pub Sing coordinator will also not be a performer as this person will need to watch the performances and address any issues that may arise so that they do not repeat on the other nights.

Please send an email to info@bcrenfest.com with BCRF AD (or pub sing) in the title and it will be forwarded to the director if she is interested in you.
