Hats Off Day
Written by: Christina Carr
It seems that The Burnaby Heights Merchant Association has a Festival every year where they cut off a section of Hastings.
To start they have a parade and then advance into the festivities. The people at Taz comics know our wonderful Tracey and our wonderful Tracey is working hard for this festival. When Taz Comics decided to enter a float in the parade we were right there.
With the Taz banner on the front of their truck and our new BCRF Banners on the sides of the truck we entered into the Parade. As Taz Comics is a comic store the kids dressed up in comic, cartoon and sci-fi characters. We had a few Renaissance costumes and plenty of bookmarks at the comic shop for people to pick up later. The new webpage address for BCRF was on the banner so we are hoping that many of you that are reading this came from seeing the banner at the parade.
We had plenty of fun and enjoyed the day immensely. We all got a bit of sun stroke / little sunburnt but wiser heads will prevail next time and spray on sunscreen will be a necessity near by. Tracey got her first 'wench burn' (pie slices on the shoulders and a cleavage line) so we are officially welcoming her into the ranks of 'wench hood'.
On a bit of a side note: Our R2D2 was part of the float and we ran him around a bit afterwards. He may not be Renaissance (even though the credits say 'A Long Time Ago...) but he was a great addition to the float and kept people entertained outside Taz Comics later on.
There wasn't much opportunity for video and/or pictures for us BUT we saw alot of cameras around other people's necks. If you have images and/or video of the float, any of our group or the droid please get a hold of us. We would dearly love to have copies. Thanks.
NEXT YEAR!!! What say you all to a horse and carriage?! I say YAY!!
