Lynn Valley Day 2006

Written by: Christina Carr

Everyone loves a parade.

What a perfect day to be walking down the middle of a street. It was slightly overcast but nice and warm. No rain and no direct sun. A short route instead of a long exhausting one. With the bagpipers to keep us hyped before heading out on the route and 'Freddy Fudpucker' to keep us going during the route we were happy. To top it off, a nice mix of people and characters (besides ourselves) to cheer us on and say hello.

We heard cries of 'Pirates', 'Is that a knight' and one 'Hey. That's King Arthur'. Suffice it to say Jeff's Armour definitely took people's attention. Jordan was a gentleman to be respected. He took every opportunity to go into the audience and kiss hands. Serena and Chad walked tall as Royalty should. The girls in the front (especially Tiff and Marina) were woken up by the sudden arrival of 'Freddy' and Kevin played the 'Arrrs' up as often as he could. All and all a very successful day.

After walking the parade some of us had to leave but the rest of us stayed in order to hand out bookmarks and talk with the masses. Danielle's favourite saying became 'tap the knight.' and the police bear wasn't nervous (with all the weapons and armour around) posing for pictures. As a matter of fact, conversations about combat was started with a few of the officers. It was a wonderful experience.

We discovered that Jeff could not eat in the armour as he could not get his hand to his lips. Miranda was a very helpful lady indeed and fed the poor boy so that he would not black out on us. It was interesting getting water into him. Next time... A straw would be handy.

Once more we posed for plenty of pictures. We hope that next year we can have the stocks there so we can take pictures of everyone else as well.

Links of interest.
