White Rock Elementary

Some of the most unique opportunities come from out of the blue....
A little while ago we were contacted by a teacher at White Rock Elementary. She informed us that they were having a school Renaissance Festival for one day and they were looking for help and volunteers. They wondered what we could do for them.
It was decided that it would be a wonderful opportunity to spread the word about the development of our Permanent Site Festival. If we were able to make our presence know at this school festival it would be a good start.
With a donation of wood from Tracy, a printer, ink and paper provided by the school and the final bits of promo materials and stock building materials from Martin and I, we were able to build stocks and do a photo shoot.
Martin designed stocks that could break down and fit in our roof carrier and on April 28th, 2005 Madison, Tracy and I headed off to the school for the day's festivities. I will warn anyone who is crazy enough to put 100 plus pounds of wood in a roof carrier on an SUV, that you drive carefully. Your centre of balance has just risen. I also recommend that if you plan on wearing a corset you change after you take the darn things down off the roof and set it up.
The weather was perfect and the people helpful and delightful to be around. I pieced together a tiny video and placed it below, so you can get a peek of what we did.
Now a portable printer (to match my portable computer and portable digital camera) is on the wish list for the near future. This way we could do the photo shoot idea anywhere and at almost anytime.
If there is an opportunity for you to have us out and showing off the stocks as well as handing out little flyers/bookmarks then please feel free to contact us. Able to do the photo thing or not, the stocks did wind up being such a huge hit that day we put down the video camera and suckered.. I mean asked nicely... for one of the teachers to help out with the backlog, keep the line organised and handling the money. Next time I think we'll bring extra help.
Also at the festival that day... I saw and chatted to...
Rob Molzahn - Shakespeare Speaks
He was a delight to chat to and is a very talented individual.
The children obviously enjoyed his teachings and was inspired by his skills.
Bravo.
I bumped into a few of them while setting up.
They had been there teaching the kids dances and arts of all sorts.
