Hello those of you who have been soooo kind. Your compliments are well received and we are already working hard to bring you 2010's BCRF.
Sheila. Being referred to as a Queen is a delight. I am only a simple Admiral but still a Captain of my own ship. We shall have to see what happens next.
The King and Queen are King James the Fourth of Scotland and Margaret Tudor (Henry Eight's sister). Margaret is not very fond of me but the King and I seem to be politically holding ground. If I can remain an advantage for him my crew and myself may have a future after all.
Thank you once again and feel free to visit our new page (see homepage link).
May we pass peacefully in the night... I say nothing of the day.

I LOVED Renfest - what a thrill! The jousting was amazing, I wasn't expecting that. My favorite character was the pirate Queen, but King James and the Queen (Anna of Denmark, I presume?)were perfect. Thanks to all the organizers.

I am originally from B.C. Canada. I have been to a Renaissance Festival out here in Larkspur, Colorado. I did not know there was one of these so close to home, for me, in Aldergrove. These events are deifinitely worth going to see. They are great fun and very entertaining. I will definitely check this one out. big grin

Thanks to all who came to and helped run the 2009 BC Renaissance Festival!!

Tonya, Thanks for your comments. This is Jessie's second year with the BCRF as the Town Insulter, so there is a good chance he will be back as he has as much fun performing the role as our guests do interacting with him. We look forward to seeing you next year, and no there's nothing wrong with wanting to be a wench. big grin

2009 was my first Ren.Fest. I loved it!! Have to say that the village insultor was my favorite part of the day, I wish my friends had got him to insult me. I hope he's there again next year. I also plan on dressing in costume next year. One vendor grabbed me a dressed me up as a wench. I LOVED IT!! Is it wrong to want to be a wench everyday???LOL

Thanks again, folks, for a fab faire.

The site was a huge improvement this year (though a heck of a commute from Richmond!). We loved the jousts, the falcons, the archery, Academie Duello; and my kids especially enjoyed the sanctioned whacking of their siblings on the quarterstaff log wink

See you next year!

Hi "Newer"

We fully understand your concerns about transit. When we set out to start the BC Renaissance Festival, we did our research on what other Ren Faires in the US and Canada were doing, and we took surveys of local interested parties. The consensus was that most attendees did not mind a 45 minute to 1.5 hour drive from "downtown" to get to Festival grounds.

In the case of BCRF, we want to become a large permanent festival one day, and with that in mind we want to establish ourselves in a community where we may be able to acquire a permanent site of somewhere around 50-100 acres. Plots of that size are simply not available closer to Vancouver, and would be prohibitively expensive if they were.

However, we are trying to do our best to look after those who don't drive. We have made arrangements with the Navy league to run a bus from the Days Inn (King George Skytrain Station) to the festival site. Three runs out in the morning and three runs back in the evening. There is a minimum donation of $3 round trip for this service. For more info goto http://www.bcrenfest.com/storyetc.html#shuttle

...never been to a ren fest, but quite curious...however, no car, and can't find anyone interested in it that I can get a ride from.

I just wonder, can ren fest be place where public transportation is available? yes, no, and why?

Places like Vancouver, New West, Burnaby, or Richmond...

embarrassment We had an "oopsie".

We were getting a lot of spam on our Guestbook, an issue which I am happy to say is now corrected. However, in the process of upgrading the Guestbook application the database got wiped out, meaning all the entries went bye-bye. #@*%! I've re-created things from an older backup (the one I took just before making changes was useless for technical reasons I won't go into here.) But that means that we've lost our last few posts. Please re-post if your comments are missing. We like hearing from visitors to our festival and our site, as well as our entertainers and vendors. If you have any questions or comments for me, please email me at the link provided. Thanks.

I was intrigued by the details of your costumes and would love to know if any of you used commercial patterns or did you design them yourself? I am trying to locate a selection of Renaissance era patterns as my son & future daughter-in-law are planning their wedding & want to do a Ren style affair. Guess who gets to do all the sewing??? --- Any assistance or guidance you can give would be greatly appreciated.
