Press Release

The BC Renaissance Festival (BCRF), the only Renaissance festival in B.C. is returning for its fifth year this summer to the Thunderbird Show Park (24550 72nd Ave Langley, BC). A member of Tourism Langley, this year's performance features a return of your favourite characters as well as some new faces, as well as an extra half day to experience the revelry. The story picks up in the year 1512 as we return once more to the village of Steller's Grove. The Jade Dragon crew once again find themselves in hot water as they have to answer to a king they did not expect to see. Featuring King Henry VIII of England and Catherine of Aragon as well as a multicultural crew of pirates (headed by our very own female pirate Charity) this year's story is one to capture the imagination of young and old.
Experience the excitement of the jousting tournament as the Society of Tilt and Lance Cavalry return to the B.C. Renaissance Festival. Pick your favourite rider and cheer him or her on as they compete once on Friday (2:00PM) and twice each day (Saturday –Monday noon and 5:00PM) for the coveted prize of being named Champion.
Throughout the day enjoy the many stage acts on any one of the four stages. From children's shows to singing and dancing, to sword fighting demonstrations and mini plays... There's something for everyone.
Take part in our historically inspired games and rides. Take a shot at our archery range (with our basic long bows and safe arrows) and see just how good of an aim you have. All the rides are man powered and operated by our talented volunteers. There are a wide variety of vendors on site with a range of historically inspired merchandise available. Clothing/costumes, hand-made leather items, musical instruments, candles, jewelry, soaps, toys, tarot readings... are just a few examples of vendors who make up the village and await the avid shopper.
Don't worry about getting hungry. Turkey legs, perogies, burgers, sausages, tamales, coffee, pop, juice. A variety of food waits for you in the food court.
Hankering for something to quench your thirst? Sit back and relax in the pub over ale, wine or try a mug of mead, all locally brewed. Raise your voice and take part in the sing-a-longs as we close off the day's events with a pub sing. Pull up a chair, grab yourself a beverage and join in the atmosphere.
This year we have added on an extra half day of excitement. There will be no storyline for this half day but all the characters will be out and about. There will also be a special joust happening as well (2:00pm) so you can cheer on your favorite champion. This is your chance to meet all our characters, chat with them, and get your picture taken.
The festival runs July 29 from 12:00pm to 6:00pm and Saturday, July 30 to Monday, August 1 from 9:00am to 9:00pm. Daily admission on Friday July 29 (half day) is $8 for adults and $6 for children and seniors and on Saturday July 30 to Monday August 1 is $15 for adults and $10 for children and seniors. Family and multi-day pricing is also available. This makes this a fun and affordable family event. Please note that this is a cash-only event with ATMs on location for your convenience.
The BCRF is a yearly event with prospects of becoming a permanent theme park with the focus on tourism and, over time hiring talented and unique actors and performers. Following an already successful format used by Renaissance Festivals across North America, the BCRF would help attract tourism dollars and promote growth of local businesses.
The brainchild of Christina Carr, the BC Renaissance Festival is a venue for local artists and performers to volunteer and gain exposure and refine their artistic talents to the delight of a live audience.

Thursday July 28th is our dress rehearsal, setup and our Media day. It is the ideal time for you to come and watch the storyline unfold, take pictures, and interview the producers, organizers and cast. During the actual fair you won't be able to interact with the cast and crew, so this is the best time to get pictures and video and to ask questions!
If you come to the site during the fair, please hand the front gate your media pass, trade if for a media ID, and ask the volunteers to get a hold of me. On your way out, please leave your media ID at the gate so we can recycle them. I'll be happy to make myself available for any questions or concerns, just give my phone a call.
