Canada Day 2006

Canada Day 2006

What better way to spend Canada's Birthday but in a parade on the North Shore?

VCON entered the North Shore Canada Day Parade where they encountered many an enthusiastic crowd participants as we were placed behind the Red Robin fire engine. The audience's whistles were well wetted before we even came upon them. Their 'cool' attitudes and joyful disposition became contagious. As the sun beat down, and we thought the Vampire was going to melt, we were encouraged by applause and cheers of support which gave us the drive we needed in order to continue

Once more Fluffy the alien was tended to by the MIB so that it could join us on the route. Squeaky the Tribble sat in Danielle's hand and chirped for all who pet him. The risky task of sharing the banner with a Vampire went to the brave Starfleet Officer but not to worry... With an Elf, Ranger and Wizard behind you how could you not feel protected.

The Jedi bravely took position ahead of the nasty pirates who seemed to be more interested in being friends with our 'lady' then pillaging her..... Booty?

To cap off our rag tag team our 'forest sprite' danced and played during the whole route. When we were handed 'tress for planting' at the end of it all the Elf and the Sprite didn't look out of place. The Vampire on the other hand.... I just can't envision a Vampire in a corset and skirt planting a tree.... Melting in the sun.... Trying not to crumble away.... That's more a Hobbit's job... But then we didn't have one of those handy.

When all was said and done we trekked over to The 80's Restaurant and had a well deserved meal. We didn't get a group picture this time as we were all quite determined to get out of our melting wardrobes and into something a little more.. Human... We also had to leave in a reasonable amount of time as one of our Jedi is a friend from Ontario and her plane was leaving that day. We definitely had to change as explaining our weapons and wardrobe to security at the airport would not be the best way to promote VCON. The Elf ears did have to be hidden as we did not have spirit gum remover with us. That quickly became dubbed as a 'Spock moment.'

We would like to take this moment to congratulate and thank those who took part. Below you will find a listing of those who participated and links to their various pages. Please visit these troupers and say hi.
